Fearless
7 January, 2009
So I have in my list of current projects a knitted tie by Veronik Avery, one of my favourite designers. There is, however, one problem: i’m a little afraid to start it. It’s the most patterned thing i’ve worked on, and my ever-present fear of making a mistake is holding me back from working on it. I’m pretty sure that’s the dumbest thing ever.

Woop, I have officially finished my Newbie scarf, my very first knitting project. Feel proud of me. Now, i’m going to start my new project: the Schollar Collar by Jared Flood.
Flattery
24 November, 2008
They say that immitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Of course, when you’re in the world of academia they also tell you that’s the most heinous a human being can commit. But, if nothing else, I suppose it says that you think the person whom you are immitating can do something better than you can, of does something better than you would think to do it.
I find myself immitating Jared Flood, a knitwear designer from Brooklyn. He is my favourite designer (of things to knit), and I have a number of his designs in my queue. He also takes the best pictures of his knits I have ever seen, ever. So i’m trying to copy his style. Perhaps if I can mimic his photography, my knits will become as good as his.
Shut up, it could work.

Real men knit and wear kilts.
There, I said it.

Hobbies are good. They calm us down, force us to take for us. But we must make time for them, and therein lies the problem.
I have a great hobby: I am a knitter. I enjoy the craft of fashioning continuous thread into werable garments. It’s an involving hobby, and a very rewarding one, because when you’re done you have something useful to show for it. However it is also time consuming, and time is something I just don’t have these days.
Right now i’m working on a scarf, it is my first real project. Been working on it for months. I used to knit a row or two a day (it’s quite wide), but with school there just hasn’t been the time. And I must say, that sucks.
